MVTec showcases a unique solution for bin picking with machine vision standard software. The future of robotics will be 3D machine vision. That is what MVTec Software GmbH, Munich, believes. Thus, MVTec showcases at the world’s leading fair for machine vision, the VISION 06 (2006, Nov 7-9) in Stuttgart, Germany, a robot that can see with two cameras what it is doing. MVTec’s standard software library HALCON makes this possible. ![]() MVTec’s six-axis industrial robot is equipped with two industrial cameras and an illumination unit with wich it can acquire stereo images while it is working. Using HALCON’s stereo calibration, from these images a 3D surface of the detected objects is computed. Combined with HALCON’s hand-eye calibration, the relationship between 3D camera data and the robot coordinate system is determined. This procedure assures an exact pick of the robot at the designated position.
