All components of the new camera are installed on a board measuring 40 x 120 mm, which makes it easy to integrate the unit into a wide range of applications. The VCSBC4012 features a CMOS sensor with a freely program-mable resolution up to 2,592 x 1,944 pixels. Its key components is a 400 MHz processor from Texas Instruments with a 3,200 MIPS computing power. At full resolution, the frame rate is 11.6 fps. VGA skipping allows for a maximum frame rate of 102 fps. The VCSBC4012 comes with 64 MB DRAM for program and data storage. An Ethernet interface allows for integration into existing automation environments. Two digital inputs and four outputs (open collector) are additionally available. The intelligent camera, which is available as a color or black-and-white model, is suitable for use in low-light conditions. An electronic rolling shutter ensures short exposure times. Company Background Vision Components GmbH was founded in 1996 by Michael Engel, inventor of the first intelligent camera for industrial applications. Today, it is a leading supplier in the field of industrial image processing. The Ettlingen-based company develops and distributes intelligent, network-compatible real time cameras. Due to their proprietary multitasking operating system VCRT, the devices oper-ate without an additional PC, making them easy to integrate into almost any industrial facility. Typi-cal application areas include quality and completeness checks, measurement technology and bio-metric access control.
