Smart Camera solution for highly efficient fine machining Ettlingen/Würselen – Based on a Smart Camera from Vision Components, FiberVision has developed the image-processing system Caminax which has been used to realize a positioning system for the manufacturing of spinnerets. Thus, nozzle openings – on single products up to more than 10,000 – can be positioned precisely and fast.  The openings with diameters between 60 µm and 500 µm must be applied very precisely: tolerances are below 10 µm and the geometry of the insert must comply with strict specifications. Another challenge is the fact that the tool for the next processing step is placed right above the work piece. Thus, the camera must be mounted sideways at a larger distance. Using a telecentric measuring lens, the vision solution provides a resolution of 2 µm at a working distance of 110 mm. The results are displayed on a standard VGA monitor. The very compact image processing system operates without a separate PC, a control cabinet, or a fan. The system ensures very high availability, since it can be checked and repaired using basic measuring equip-ment. Furthermore, it enables intuitive operation and quick configuration for new product lines.
