The Company was founded in January of 1997 as a spin-off from the Laboratory for Computational Intelligence (LCI) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (IRIS). The founders and principals of the company are five engineers from the Department of Computer Science at UBC. PGR has extensive experience in other areas of computer vision, such as object modeling and tracking. In addition, PGR has a broad range of hardware and software engineering skills. These skills allow Point Grey to produce complete, low-cost, real-time solutions including customized hardware design, embedded, low-level and high-level software.
