Basler’s newest player in the vision components arena, the eXcite, is an integration of two complex components, a top-quality digital camera and a complete, high-performance PC. The eXcite combines these two components in a very small housing. A 64 bit, 1 GHz MIPS processor with communications capabilities based on computer networking technology is the heart of Basler’s eXcite camera. In addition to the MIPS core, peripherals such as memory and Ethernet interfaces are included inside of the processor chip. This high level of integration is responsible for eXcite’s compact size. The use of a Linux operating system on the processor allows the integrated hardware resources to function at top levels.
“The eXcite is the first intelligent camera that enables the integration of complex vision applications at high frame rates. This unique camera creates a new performance dimension,” says Werner Borchert, Basler-VC Product Manager.
Basler’s years of experience in camera design and production are demonstrated by the camera’s high image quality. The eXcite is based on a CMOS sensor with VGA resolution and will be available in both monochrome and color. The frame rate varies in a range from 60 to 180 frames per second. All of Basler’s standard camera features, such as an electronic full frame shutter, area of interest (AOI) scanning, and real-time triggering, are available on the eXcite.
With a versatile interface that includes USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, and digital I/O connections, the eXcite is well-suited for a wide range of industrial purposes in a variety of contexts. Basler’s eXcite is a flexible, high-performance platform designed to handle the easiest or the most demanding vision applications. A free, CD-based installatio n package includes all of the tools needed for application development along with extensive documentation and sample programs that simplify the user’s first steps with the eXcite.
