The eXcite is an integration of two complex components, a top-quality digital camera and a complete high-performance PC. The freely programmable eXcite combines these two components in a very small housing. A 64 bit, 1 GHz MIPS processor with communications capabilities based on computer networking technology is the heart of Basler’s eXcite intelligent camera.
HALCON Embedded from MVTec is an extensive software library for industrial image processing. It provides more than 1150 operators with outstanding performance in applications such as blob analysis, morphology, pattern matching, metrology, 3D calibration, and binocular stereo vision, to name just a few.
“HALCON was tested at a very early stage in the camera’s development. This lead to an optimal integration of the individual components and means that the full functionality of the software is readily available,” says Werner Borchert, Basler-VC Product Manager. The interactive development environment of HALCON "HDevelop" supports quick and easy development of image processing solutions. With the versatile interfaces available on the eXcite, including USB2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, and digital I/O connections, calculated results can be fed directly into the production process. Using these capabilities to detect defective parts on a production line is just one example of a possible task.
