One order was placed by a large semiconductor wafer inspection system manufacturer, the other was placed by one of the premier flat panel display manufacturing equipment producers. The orders totalled over $1.7 million for committed development services and prototypes, with a recurring follow-on production goal of over $2.5 million per year. These orders are in addition to previously announced contracts in this same market with different customers for $1.9 million in March, and $1.4 million in January.\r\n

\r\nAlthough all details of the transactions have not been released, these orders are for DALSA’s high performance digital camera products. These digital cameras will enable the company’s customers to rapidly detect defects and process anomalies in semiconductor wafer and flat panel display production. This provides faster and more accurate yield enhancing information for integrated circuit and display manufacturers, lowering the cost of production. These development contracts are expected to be completed over the next 16 months.\r\n

\r\nCommenting on these orders, Dr. Savvas Chamberlain, CEO of DALSA Corporation noted, \“The leadership in the emerging upturn of the semiconductor and electronics capital equipment market is coming from the flat panel display industry. Even with the general economic weakness of the past year, flat panel production has grown significantly. Reduced prices for flat panels have triggered massive adoption of these displays in place of cathode ray tubes for desktop computers. The growth of colour display cell phones and digital cameras are also contributing to increased demand. Current production capacity for colour LCDs is fully utilized world wide, and a significant build-out of production capacity is already underway. There are several major new facilities being built in Korea and Taiwan right now, requiring billions of dollars of new capital equipment. This order from a prominent flat panel display inspection equipment manufacturer is in support of the colour LCD manufacturing capacity expansion.\“\r\n

\r\nRemarking on the order from the wafer inspection system manufacturer, Dr. Chamberlain pointed out, \“This further signals the competitiveness that the most technologically aggressive wafer inspection instrument manufacturers gain from DALSA’s industry leading digital image capture technology. Our technology positions our customers to exploit the coming upturn, by helping them to gain market share as the recovery in semiconductor capital equipment grows.\“\r\n
