The Gigabit Ethernet interface, standardized according to IEEE802.3 and GigE Vision^TM, opens up new applications for industrial image processing. A data transfer rate of 1000 Mbit/sec with a maximum cable length of 100 m removes all previous restrictions regarding the digital transfer of image data. In combination with switches, there are practically no more limits to the distance. The network capability offers implementations of custom solutions suitable for varying needs.
