SONY UNVEILS NEXT-GENERATION OF PROGRESSIVE SCAN IEEE 1394 CAMERAS

„New High Speed Cameras Ideal for Industrial Applications
\r\nBOSTON, VISION SHOW EAST, Booth #511, May 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ —
\r\nSony Electronics today unveiled six IEEE 1394 output compliant high-speed and
\r\nhigh-resolution digital cameras that are ideal for such quality-critical
\r\nindustrial applications as semiconductor inspection, machine vision and
\r\nfactory automation.“;“The 910 series of cameras features a 1/2-inch Progressive Scan CCD while
\r\nthe 710 series incorporates a 1/3-inch CCD to deliver high sensitivity with
\r\nuncompressed high-resolution digital images. All models include an external
\r\neasy-to-use asynchronous electronic shutter function with an exposure range
\r\nfrom 1/50,000 to 17.5 seconds, allowing for the clear capture of fast moving
\r\nobjects as well as still images in low light environments.
\r\n \“Our IEEE 1394 digital interface cameras offer a variety of convenient
\r\nfeatures, including partial scan and selectable output modes in a compact and
\r\nrobust design with high shock and vibration tolerance, making them extremely
\r\nflexible and easy to integrate in a range of demanding and quality-critical
\r\nimaging applications,\“ said Ken La Marca, general manager of Sony Electronics‘
\r\nVisual Imaging Products Division.
\r\n The new IEEE 1394 digital interface camera line-up includes the following
\r\nmodels:
\r\n
\r\n — XCD-SX910 with a 1/2-inch Progressive Scan CCD, providing high quality
\r\n monochrome, black and white images with a maximum resolution of 1376 x
\r\n 1024 pixels, and 15 frames per second (fps) at 8-bits or 7.5 fps at
\r\n 10-bits;
\r\n — XCD-X710 with a 1/3-inch Progressive Scan CCD, delivering high quality
\r\n monochrome, black and white images with a maximum resolution of 1024 x
\r\n 768 pixels, and 30 fps at 8-bits or 15 fps at 10-bits;
\r\n — XCD-SX910CR with a 1/2-inch Progressive Scan CCD, providing high
\r\n quality raw color images on the computer with a maximum resolution of
\r\n 1376 x 1024 pixels, and 15 frames per second (fps) at 8-bits or 7.5 fps
\r\n at 10-bits;
\r\n — XCD-X710CR with a 1/3-inch Progressive Scan CCD, delivering high
\r\n quality raw color images on the computer with a maximum resolution of
\r\n 1024 x 768 pixels, and 30 fps at 8-bits or 15 fps at 10-bits;
\r\n — DFW-SX910 with a 1/2-inch Progressive Scan CCD, providing high quality
\r\n color images inside the camera with a maximum resolution of 1376 x 1024
\r\n pixels, and 7.5 frames per second (fps) at 8-bit YUV422; and
\r\n — DFW-X710 with a 1/3-inch Progressive Scan CCD, delivering high quality
\r\n color images inside the camera with a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768
\r\n pixels, and 15 fps at 8-bit — YUV422.
\r\n
\r\n The \“CR\“ (Color Raw) models use a CCD with a color mask, commonly referred
\r\nto as \“Bayer filter,\“ and output the \“raw color\“ pixel values in 8 or 10 bit
\r\nto be converted to a color image on the computer using common Bayer conversion
\r\nroutines. According to La Marca, \“There are instances when it’s desirable for
\r\ncolor processing to take place outside of the camera, enabling special
\r\nprocessing to the images prior to color conversion.\“ The CR models transmit
\r\nonly the raw pixel values so they can achieve twice the frame rate of the DFW
\r\nseries.
\r\n With the \“DFW\“ models color processing is performed inside the cameras by
\r\na dedicated Digital Signal Processor (DSP) for precise color conversion and
\r\nwhite balancing on the fly.
\r\n The DSP starts with a raw 10-bit pixel value and outputs high quality
\r\n8-bit YUV422 color images. These models also feature a shorter and more
\r\nstylish body design compared to the XCD series.
\r\n This new line-up of IEEE 1394 cameras will be on display at the Vision
\r\nShow in Boston from May 4 to May 6.
\r\n
