Adept Technology Selected by ZT Automation to Provide Adept SmartServo FireWire-Based Products.\r\n
\r\nZT Automation to Standardize on Adept sModules(TM) and Adept SmartControllers(TM) for Media Testing and Servowriting Products for Disk Drive Industry
\r\n
\r\n“;“SAN JOSE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dec. 3, 2002– Adept Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq:ADTK – News), a leading manufacturer of flexible automation for the electronics, fiber optic, telecommunications, life sciences and semiconductor industries, today announced that ZT Automation, a leading supplier of automated disk testing workcells, has selected Adept Technology, Inc. to supply Adept sModule(TM) linear modules and Adept SmartController(TM) products, which are based on Adept’s SmartServo(TM) distributed motion control architecture, for use in their automated disk testing workcells. Adept’s FireWire®-based products will be used in ZT Automation’s new advanced servowriting workcell for the disk drive industry. The resulting new workcells will be more cost effective, exhibit higher throughput and have a smaller footprint than previous systems.\r\n
\r\n\“We’re excited to have ZT Automation standardize on Adept,\“ noted John Dulchinos, vice president of sales for Adept Technology, Inc. \“ZT is uniquely equipped to meet the extremely rigorous demands of the disk drive industry, and we collaborated closely with them to develop an appropriate material handling solution with Adept’s newest line of distributed motion control products.\“ \r\n
\r\n\r\n
\r\n\“After evaluating a wide variety of servo-axes and controllers for our next-generation systems, we concluded that Adept’s FireWire®-based Adept sModules and Adept SmartControllers offered ZT Automation and its customers the best combination of performance, price, flexibility and reliability,\“ said Neil Brumberger, president of ZT Automation. \“ZT Automation and Adept Technology are well positioned to dominate the market for advanced servowriting automation.\“ \r\n
\r\n\r\n
\r\nZT Automation’s next-generation servowriting workcell allows data storage media to be formatted before they are assembled into a disk drive. Servowriting outside the drive allows closer track spacing and higher areal density storage of data. Building on more than 18 years of experience in handling rigid disk media for the data storage industry, ZT Automation has developed a compact, high-throughput workcell employing 12 servo-axes all operating under the control of Adept’s FireWire®-based Adept Smartcontroller(TM). The system has a lower cost, higher throughput and smaller footprint than was possible with their previous system. According to ZT Automation the workcell is complete and the first production systems will ship to data storage customers in Q1 of 2003. \r\n
\r\n\r\n
\r\nZT Automation, located in Fremont, Calif., and Singapore, is the leading supplier of Automated Disk Testing Workcells with more than 90% of the worldwide installed base of advanced servowriting automation. ZT Automation began shipping its first-generation automation for advanced servowriting applications one year ago. \r\n
