NATICK, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–April 23, 2002–Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ: CGNX – news), the world’s leading supplier of machine vision systems, announced today that it has entered into an OEM agreement with Alphasem AG, a manufacturer of die bonding and die sorting equipment based in Berg/TG, Switzerland. Under the agreement, Alphasem expects to purchase approximately $1.3 million of Cognex’s MVS 8100 machine vision systems over the next 18 months.

WATERLOO, ON, April 19 /CNW/ – DALSA Corporation’s (TSE: DSA – news) Semiconductor Wafer Foundry has received Motorola, Inc.’s (NYSE:MOT – news) Semiconductor Products Sector 2001 Foundry Gold Performance Award. DALSA’s foundry was selected based on a comprehensive set of criteria, which included over 40 elements weighted in five categories: quality, cost, delivery, service and technology. The Bromont, Quebec foundry demonstrated exceptional performance in on-time delivery, process improvement and systems implementation in coordination with Motorola’s initiatives for seamless supplier interactions. In particular, DALSA’s wafer foundry achieved 100% on-time delivery in both its four and six inch lines. APRIL 17–Nyquist Industrial Control (Eindhoven, The Netherlands; www.nyquist.com) has introduced its latest FireWire industrial input/output products under the name FirePoint. These I/O modules, based on the IEEE 1394 standard, enable OEM machine builders and system integrators to offer their clients a complete machine- control system–motion, vision, and I/O on a single FireWire machine backbone. The FirePoint products are set up in a modular system, available in various models for volume OEM clients.

Using cameras that sample light from objects through multiple spectral bands, these systems reproduce more accurate color images than when broadcast-standard color cameras are used.

APRIL 15–Research-and-development activities of the Jenoptik AG (Jena, Germany; www.jenoptik.com) and Lambda Physik AG (Goettingen, Germany; www.lambdaphysik.com) joint venture, XTREME technologies GmbH, will be funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The purpose of this strategic research partnership is to develop light sources in the extreme-ultraviolet range (EUV) for future production of even more-efficient chip generations.
